Review of V for Vendetta (2006) by James U — 30 Oct 2013
There is a certain magic that is in this movie that feels absent from more current superhero movies and is held solely by V for Vendetta. To start off the entire cast shines especially Hugo Weaving who acts behind the mask of V and manages to wear a mask almost the entire movie and deliver a character that is as much of an performer as a warrior and a freedom fighter. His speeches are all memorable and delivered with a hint of humor and by the end of his words you feel the emotion even coming from behind the mask. Portman is convincing in her transformation from a normal girl to a hardened survivor and Hurt owns as the films villain.
The fight scenes are intense and there are few battles that can compare to the end faceoff. There is an air of poetry to V's final strikes after being riddled by the enemy soldiers and then dies shortly after dispatching every last one. It should also be noted the explosions in this movie are well timed with the music and everything feels tied together.
This movie is second only to the Avengers in my book.
