Review of U.S. Marshals (1998) by Nd 2 — 03 Dec 2007

I didn't hate this film, and in fact it entertained me. But it's hard to remain positive about it in light of what its set against. It's meant as a sequel to the break out hit "The Fugitive". That film was a perfectly written, perfectly cast and perfectly executed action/thriller that caught everyones attention. U.S. Marshalls thus has a ton to live up to, and for as hard as it tries it inevitably is doomed to suffer on the shadow of it's predecessor.

But for what it's worth, if you take the film on it's own, it does manage to be entertaining as a cat and mouse game of catch. The hunt retains all of it's initial excitement, and Tommy Lee Jones is Tommy Lee Jones. It's just too bad that Ford couldn't be worked in there somehow. Snipes just isn't the same.
