Review of Us (2019) by Lambo442 — 22 Mar 2019
The Director sacrifices entertainment value to make some big statement about American society, which you could just as easily learn from reading a history book about American society. By the end of the film everything just gets so pretentious and ridiculous you're shaking your head in disbelief.
Then, seeing as you're so dumbfounded as to what just happened you have to go online to read about it and then end up shaking your head even more. And don't tell me for a second anyone giving this film a great review understood what was going on symbolically while they watched it.
Underneath this political garbage there's actually quite an intense horror, which is such a shame, because if Peele just concentrated on making an entertaining, believable and coherent film instead of ramming his political agenda down our throats, we'd walk away more entertained.
Another thing that let it down was the script. Why are this family making jokes whilst they're being stalked and treating it all so light heartedly? It makes the mood so jarring. Everything was great with this film until you start having things 'explained,' and then it just gets farcical.
Absolute nonsense.
