Review of Urban Legends: Final Cut (2000) by Virginie B — 20 Jul 2009
I've never seen a movie start off so well and degrade so quickly as I have with this one. I'm guessing this one exchanged writers often because it went from one direction to the other at a snap.
One main character dies and is immediately replaced by a cheap twist. Why bother? It doesn't help that apart from the lead (Jennifer Morrison, who actually comes out of this looking good), I was apathetic as to what would happen with most of the characters.
Loretta DeVine shows up again and made it ten times worse. She is so annoying. The reveal of the killer (nice fencing mask) is probably the most ridiculous, though. And I thought the original's was bad.
.. this one definitely tops it on CRAP level. This film basically teaches you to kill your friends if you have a past issue. Ottman does a fairly decent job. He's got some nice shots and a good handle on scenes.
It's the awful script that hurts him. I loved the beginning to this movie. It had a good idea (a killer in film school!), the first murder was INSANE in its brutality, the chase scenes were pretty fun and some of the dialogue was actually pretty smart.
It's a shame that the other two thirds turn to shite so fast because there was a good movie for some time here. Next!
