It doesn?t matter how old Steven Seagal might be the man is still making movies, even though all of them recently have been direct to DVD. He may not be as big as you use to, but he did star in some Mountain Dew commercials that gained him some much needed popularity. With that said is Urban Justice worth while or should we just try to remember Seagal when he was kicking ass and taking names?
Urban Justice has a simple to follow plot. Seagal?s kid is murdered after uncovering some shocking footage he wasn?t supposed to see. Instead of waiting to let the cops tend to this murder Steven is set to find out who killed his son.
Try to remember what Seagal use to be, Urban Justice is not going to bring back his career any time soon. This movie is full of Seagal kicking ass, don?t get me wrong, but he is old and it shows. Half the time when he is fighting we see close ups. Is he really attacking those gangsters or does he have a stand in? It?s too hard to tell since there are other occasions when he is shown doing his karate moves. Is this the real Steven Seagal or do we have half Steven and half stunt man? I know he may be a little big, he is always wearing dark colors in this movie, but I have to know the truth.
The first part of the movie does feel like some of Seagal?s older movies. Somebody dies, he is watching them get buried and then we find out he knew that person some how. In good old Seagal fashion he goes under cover to find the truth or in this case get revenge. How can he do this? Easy he moves into the hood and talks like a thug. It is a little strange though because sometimes Seagal will talk like country singer Clint Black, but after a sentence or two he is going back to his thug words.
When the movie is coming to a close it starts to drag. Action sequences just don?t seem right and Eddie Griffin, the other star in Urban Justice, gets annoying as hell. Add in the directors random ass shots and you have the worst ten minutes in action history. Well it may not be the worst but it could very well be the worst Steven Seagal movie.
Final Verdict.
Urban Justice is a look on the war against ourselves? I have no idea but this movie doesn?t deserve to have Steven Seagal in it. The action in here isn?t bad; the last ten minutes of the movie might be the worst in my opinion. It is hard to tell if we are really seeing the real Seagal doing some of these karate movies, but that is ok he looks good in dark covers. There you go Steven cover up that beer belly, save your energy for another tour with your music career.
