Review of Urban Justice (2007) by James — 15 Aug 2008
So I only gave it two stars cause I could only get two thirds of the way through it before turnin it off. I have never seen Danny Trejo try so hard at being a dramatic actor and I saw why when seagal and himself have a heart to heart about his dead son.
I dont know what was worse, the bad drivin shots of seagal in cars drivin with a background from the 60's, the huge trenchcoat he never takes off or even unbuttons (cover shot must be in the final 20 minutes) , he loooks like he is 300 pounds in that coat, or the totally out of nowhere scene where in the middle of Compton ave in the heart of the ghetto, ONE lone black man gets chased down by a jeep full of skinhead mutha f-ers (cause apparently thats easy to do in the movies predominently black neighborhood) and begin to kick the shit out of him until of course our hero pulls up and uses some Urban Justice on these neo-nazi punks.
I will say that I didnt immediately turn this movie off like I usually do with steven's movies now a days. I think everyone is still a sucker for watching this man (even though he has definately dropped from his Under Siege glory days) break arms and kick people in the face really hard.
He makes it look somewhat easy for any middle aged overweight man to win a 1 v 5 streetfight in some wacked out gang house. Eddie Griffin is laughable as the rugged West-Side Gangsta's Leader(apparently black gang for seagal to beat up was taken).
I kept waitin to see a afro pop up from under his du rag and the twist would end with Undercover Brother fightin Steval Seagal for some Urban Justice!
