Review of Urban Cowboy (1980) by Fahad A — 17 Mar 2010
Far and away, this is the best film ever made about riding mechanical bulls. Perhaps a rodeo with live animals could have legitimized the inspirational ending, but the competition is a mere byproduct of a heated love triangle between Bud, Wes and Sissy (played by Travolta, Glenn & Winger, respectively).
A discontent Bud grew up in small town southern Texas and struggles with swallowing his pride, expressing his feelings, and accepting Sissyâ??s â??anything he can doâ?¦â?? independent woman. Travolta has essentially reprised his Saturday Night Fever role â?? minus one leisure suit and plus one cowboy hat.
I did enjoy Winger and Glenn in what was their first starring roles in a big movie. Also, the country music was quite good as most of the songs are country classics (probably due to the film and the crossover success of the soundtrack).
