Review of Up the Yangtze (2007) by Cathalynn L — 09 Mar 2008
Poignant and engaging. About the river just before it was flooded. Terrible options for dislocatees and their children--go work on cruise ships with brutal work conditions and isolated from family, move to crappy government apartments and get gawked at by tourists, or live in the streets.
Tragic--these are real people, I wonder what happened to them all. One asks, why would they do this to their own people?
