Review of Up the Yangtze (2007) by Frank Z — 31 Mar 2008
The contrast of the poor/disadvantaged and the well-off is made very apparent and memorable. the mentality of the young from middle-class and peasant families are entirely different. there is a sense of frustration, disillusion, and helplessness among the people with regard, not only to the three gorge dam project but also, to the government as a whole.
it's a very true and humane reflection of people's lives in china - the side we don't often see or hear about.
