Review of Up in the Air (2009) by Jeshwanth P — 16 Sep 2011
Nicely balances a wry humor with the grim reality of corporate layoffs in the economic downturn. Which makes it easier to be redundant - the old school human touch (Clooney) or the new tech methodology (Kendrick) who fires by video screen using a script? Vera Farmiga adds a romantic wrinkle for Clooney and the narrative is thoughtful and considered.
At the same time, anyone facing a layoff or looking for a job in the current climate would do best to avoid UP IN THE AIR; too close to home.
