Review of Up in the Air (2009) by Ben Y — 15 Dec 2011
This was a lot better than expected. Goes deeper than your run-of-the-mill chick flick. I use that term lightly because the only thing chicky about it is that it talks about relationships and has George Clooney. Clooney is excellent, Vera Farmiga is smoking hot(great ass shot, too).. the other chick, Anna Kendrick was kind of annoying but her and Clooney had some good chemistry.
I think what struck me the most about this movie is how dark it is.
Spoiler:
For a movie that is basically about a company that is hired by other companies to fire employees, the writers didn't spare any emotional gravity of such a life-changing moment.
At times you are faced with parallels to your own life and the fear of being fired and the inevitable dread of facing that is portrayed beautifully on screen.
Very well acted movie, even by the bit parts(J.K. Simmons is awesome).
