Review of Up in the Air (2009) by George A — 11 Apr 2012
Well, first off, I loved this movie. You're not going to hear me say anything bad about it and I feel so attached to it that you trying to argue with me about it not being worthwhile would probably be met with a snobbish groan and a middle finger.
It's smart as hell, in all ways. It's witty and has some terrific and hilarious moments. It's topical, seeing as the movie is essentially about the guy who cushions the blow of people being laid off.
It's superbly acted by its three leads, and also by all of the great actors that only show up for a single scene(among them are JK Simmons, Zach Galifianakis, and Danny Mcbride). The characters follow a strict line of psychological realism, as does the story.
It doesn't go in a conventional way, and it has some surprises towards the end that are depressing and uplifting in equal measure. It's too good to give you anything that can fit squarely into a single category, which allows it to deliver on every front that you can possibly expect.
I mean, honestly, what more can you ask of a movie?
