Review of Up in the Air (2009) by Alex M — 20 Dec 2012
Had this won 'Best Picture' over The Hurt Locker back in 2009, I don't think I would have minded. The performances are exhilarating to watch - Anna Kendrick, the youngest and newest of a cast of very experienced actors like Clooney and Farmiga, is a revelation and quite possibly my favorite part of the film.
Despite its dreary subject matter, the script is consistently smart and funny, and the story moves along at a leisurely pace, mostly thanks to the perfect direction of Jason Reitman. Regardless of whether or not you're unemployed, I believe everyone deserves to watch this at least once - it's easily one of 2009's best.
