Review of Up in the Air (2009) by William J — 31 Dec 2012
'Up in the Air' is a very enjoyable movie with mostly impressive central performances, particularly from George Clooney and Vera Farmiga.
The movie is very easy to watch, even with its 110 minute running time. The first 90 minutes in particular fly by, thanks to George Clooney and the surprising Vera Farmiga. Farmiga particularly, was excellent and in my view, she may have upstaged Clooney (who was as solid and charismatic as you would expect him to be).
I was less impressed by Anna Kendrick, as 'Natalie' - the incoming and inexperienced executive. Whilst she is getting great reviews, I honestly couldn't see it - and felt she over-acted in several scenes. Perhaps it is just me, but I just wasn't buying her in the role.
I thought the movie was very good, but overall I felt slightly let down with a surprising last 20 or so minutes that felt a touch apart from the very impressive first hour and a half.
This movie is definitely worth a watch, for the interesting and easy to watch story - and terrific performances from George Clooney and Very Farmiga.
