Review of Up in the Air (2009) by Kyle B — 30 Jul 2015
The first glimpses of this film is different landscapes all over the world, cities, forrests, oceans and so on with a kind of catchy tune in the background. This kind of sets the tone of the whole film which is a lot of movement but and always noise in the background.
It feels like the film itself are constantly on the move. Clooney gives a great performance as a person with a radically different view on life than most of us. His female counterparts are also very good, played by Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick.
Full of fine touches and details in all the performances which adds to the realism but the film also uses a bit of conventional drama which actually works for the most part. The film is as said before moves constantly but most of it takes place on the ground and it is always noise in the background.
But in the final shot we float around weightless above the clouds in total silence which was just breathtakingly well thought of.
