Review of Up in the Air (2009) by Juli R — 20 Jan 2012
I had high expectations for this movie made by Jason Reitman (Juno). But I was let down by the script. The job as corporate hatchet man just didn't seem believable to me. The movie would have been better served by having this character be a portfolio manager. Then there could have been cameos by the people affected by the deals that were made (ie, the people who were fired after mergers).
Despite Natalie Keener's respectable performance, I believe that the script was also let down by the inclusion of her character. It also veered into a strange and somewhat unbelievable direction with the family wedding. I think the main emphasis should have been the relationship with Vera Farmiga's character. This movie really tried to do too much.
