Review of Up (2009) by Edmund P — 19 Jul 2016
Tied as my favorite Pixar alongside Docter's other masterwork Inside Out, Up soars off the screen with humor, imagination, and breathtaking beauty. It's a heartfelt fantasy peppered with delightful characters, a fitting villain, and a hero whose dreams of nostalgia are challenged by the arrival of new adventure.
Yet it is also a genuine experience of time marching on, and coping with past losses so they may not hold back your present. In its comedy, it can be cleverly silly. In its drama, it can be painfully heartbreaking.
And in its total runtime, it stands soundly and confidently as pure Pixar magic.
