Review of Up (2009) by Cj C — 11 Aug 2013
In 2009, the movie Up was released to critical acclaim and box office success. Following Ratatouille and WALL-E people had really high hopes for this movie. Does this movie exceed those expectations? No, it surpasses them.
Up has the perfect amount of comedy, drama and originality. In a time where the film industry is overblown with rehashes, reboots, sequels, prequels etc. Up is one of the few films to feature an original story, and that is the brilliance of this movie.
It is brave, it goes places which most children's movies wouldn't dare to go. It also takes what would seem to be a rather silly concept on paper and make it it's own. This movie features flying houses, talking dogs which fly little aeroplanes, as well as a ton of other things that don't add up.
But, that is where the movie excels. Up manages to pull you in with each over-the-top moment due to the strength of the dramatic moments. This movie is incredibly engaging from the heartfelt opening to the colourful ending.
The movie is funny, emotional, and dramatic. With its memorable and diverse slew of characters, its beautiful animation, and its genuine situations. Everybody should find something to enjoy with Up. In my opinion, one of the most perfect animated films ever made.
It is a classic.
