Review of Up (1984) by Stephen E — 12 Aug 2013
'Up' sets itself up so well with its heartbreaking opening montage that there's no way the following action can top it. Those opening 15 minutes are so tender and beautiful that they'll instantly raise your expectations, only to have you drop them once the story (which is less powerful but still just as inspiring) begins.
The animation is beautiful and the message is universal, but it's that opening that resonated with me the most. 'Up' could have been a great film, but it ends up being just very good.
