Review of Upstream Color (2013) by Stephen E — 21 Jul 2013
Carruth, who inexplicably has a following, has made his follow up to the very overrated "Primer". "Upstream color" is another dramatically dead film that is dry, soulless, and lacking characters to latch on to or identify with.
The film is well made but holds itself at a distance from the audience. He wants to be David Lynch telling unusual stories in an unusual manners but he lacks the pull Lynch has. It's unfortunate, Carruth has potential but he seems to squander it every time in making these cold, soulless, and heartless films.
Very disappointing.
