Review of Unplanned (2019) by Locknuts — 23 Oct 2019
I'm not a religious person. The creators of this film are very brave in the current political climate. This film takes a rebellious stance that you are simply not allowed to hold these days. It tells a great story about a woman who challenges her most closely held beliefs when confronted with the reality of abortion, while making emotional and logical arguments against the practice. It's not very often I feel anything at all at a movie theatre, but this got my feels going.
Brooks Ryan's acting was so stale though that it almost took me out of the film altogether. It loses a point for that. Actually, they could have found better actors for most of the family members of Abby, so 2 points off. The rest of the cast were fine and believable. I would love to see more daring films that challenge the popular narrative we're fed on social issues such as climate change or men and women being different.
