Review of Unplanned (2019) by Apostle455 — 28 Aug 2019
Regardless of your views on abortion, this movie is god awful. On a technical level, it sucks. The characters are exaggerated to hell, with the villains being incredibly evil and the good guys being saints, and nobody acts like a real human being.
The main character is so nieve that you can't feel any sympathy for her. The camerawork and lighting is boring and makes this feel like a TV movie or straight to video film. The portrayal of abortion legitimately made me laugh in the theater.
The abortion scene where a fetus gets sucked through a tube is completely wrong in that A) it would be illegal to abort a fetus that fully formed unless the mother would die as a result of the birth and B) None or very little abortions are performed in that manner.
There is a scene where the manager of Planned Parenthood takes the main character to a room where they keep fetuses in crates, which was so dumb that I laughed. The film portrayed all the Christian protesters as happy young people who are really peaceful (which is weird considering religion is dying amongst young people and it would be more realistic if the protestors were a bit older) and just kinda glossed over how much harassment women seeking abortions face.
In the end, the main character cries about the abortions she had, which is extremely sappy and forced. I can't recommend anybody see this movie.
