Review of Unleashed (2005) by Tony P — 18 Jan 2010
In Unleashed, Jet Li gets the opportunity to emote amongst the seasoned talents of Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins. The three are delightful, but the young Kerry Condon sucks the energy from her every scene with a queasy, inorganic performance.
Some scenes felt rushed and unrehearsed, then overcompensated in the editing. Nonetheless the spirit of Luc Besson maintains the whimsy and poetry innate in his action/adventure films. Then the fight choreography of Yuen Wo Ping is wonderfully raw and exhilerating, masking the moments of amateurism in the directing.
It's worth a visit every now and again.
