Review of Unleashed (2005) by Ted R — 27 Oct 2011
Cute. yes, I used the word cute. Beautiful too. Words to describe a martial arts action movie? Not normally, but sometimes. Almost like a Leon the Professional type of film, this movie shocks you not so much in the violence and action (although it is shocking at times), but that the movie has heart and doesn't come off corny.
At least in my opinion. This movie has heart enough to make it go with a visual style that makes it unique in it's story telling. I knew this movie would be different, but I didn't know how different or how good.
It is a pretty dang good movie and definitely different. Morgan Freeman and a new actress to me Kerry Condon do a great job at building the hope of love and family for someone treated like a dog. Not exactly becoming family automatically, but building toward it through such things as shopping, cooking, working together, and enjoying life together.
The movie does a great job in pacing and building this. While the movie is still a bit unbelievable since it is a martial arts movie. If you can suspend belief at parts and not become over critical. This is a heartwarming, great action film.
