Review of Universal Soldier: Regeneration (2010) by Steve T — 26 Jun 2010
Van Dammes best effort since the mid nineties (Timecop and Sudden Death) going back to its UniSol roots and ignoring the godawful sequels that followed the original. The setting is spot on as Russian terrorists hijack Chernobyl and the prime ministers children demanding the release of war criminals as part of the deal, the other plus point is their have the latest state of the art UniSol (the quite impressive UFC's Arlovski - doesnt say much but doest have too!)on their side, with the normal armed forces no match step forward the decommisioned original Unisol Luc Deveraux(Van Damme).
Its a cracking action film, obviously low budget but you cant tell with some great shoot outs and some of the best (and brutal)punch ups Ive seen on screen for years. Now my only gripe is that big Dolph is only in in for about 10 minutes as Andrew Scott and they is no real reason for his return, in fact Scott and Deveraux dont even recognise each other - no flash backs, nothing.
Apart from that its a cracking action movie and a big step up from your usual DTDVD movies.
