Review of United 93 (2006) by Paul O — 24 Jan 2012
Certainly one of, if not THE single most horrifying piece of cinema ever created, United 93 also stands as one of the most technically complex and emotionally dextrous films of the generation. Never resorting to cliche and always keeping proceedings on or around the appropriate line of sentimentality for such a difficult subject, the movie manages a remarkable feat; even if it is merely a small one, we are at last given an idea of the chaos, panic and bravery that took place on Flight 93.
The result is difficult to stomach, and not suitable for the easily unsettled, but my God is it a powerful 111 minutes - it's sure to leave you truly awe-struck, and perhaps upset, but never disheartened.
United 93, in spite of its all-too-real tragedy, handles the events of September 11th with such a staggering amount of class and dignity that it's impossible to walk away from this crucial, life-defining film without a sense of faith in mankind.
