Review of United 93 (2006) by Alex M — 23 Feb 2013
United 93 is an exceptional film, one that every American deserves to see at some point. It is not a film that is meant to be enjoyed or watched over and over, but one to be viewed and respected. Paul Greengrass does a phenomenal job directing, not pulling any punches but treating the subject matter and characters with care.
The cast of unknown actors deliver sound and emotionally resonant performances; everything about this film is incredibly realistic, from the passengers boarding to the final rush to stop the hijackers, and it makes it all the more heartbreaking.
But most of all, it is the last ten minutes of this film that will linger in my mind the most - the passengers rushing the hijackers, the screams of the people, the tears, and the powerful score add up to one of the most memorable, heart wrenching, yet altogether satisfying scenes in a film.
United 93 is not a good time; it's scary and intense and harrowing - but it is a film we all must see, and the events within it are ones we cannot and will not ever forget.
