Review of Unforgiven (1992) by Benjamin Z — 27 Nov 2010
Will Clint Eastwood ever make another Western, will he directed or star in it,or both?Who knows? No matter what,"Unforgiven" is a fine piece of craftmanship as one would expect from Eastwood, who brings to the film all his understanding of a genre he single-handedly kept alive for a lot of years!A powerful, dark, and gripping examination of morality and hypocrisy in the Old West, acknowledged as the great antiromantic Western.
With stand out perfomances by the all cast, including the Oscar winner by Gene Hackman,"Unforgiven" is the story of a one-time mad killer, long since reformed by his wife, who comes out of "retirement" to make one more kill because he needs the money for his family.
A film of melancholy beauty, touchingly dedicated with grace and love to Eastwood's directorial mentors Sergio Leone and Don Siegel!
