Review of Unforgiven (1992) by Ted R — 16 Jan 2011
"I guess he deserved. We all deserve it kid." I have watched this movie again for the umpteenth time and I"m still captivated by it. This dark realistic western captivates the human emotions of the west in contrast to the stylized westerns and spaghetti westerns of the past.
This is even seen as "Little Bill" shows Beauchamp the real stories of the west and not the fictional westerns that he was writing. Eastwood is amazing in both his writing and directing. The dialogue is well written, executed, and filmed.
This is not a fast shoot em up, but a well paced introspective film with an amazing ending. Gene Hackman also makes a great contrast to Munny as a self-righteous legalistic law man seeking to make it for himself and Munny as a many of many sins trying to make it and do the right thing.
A simple, but well executed film.
