Review of Underworld: Blood Wars (2016) by Jon C — 06 Jan 2017
It's not as impressive as the previous film but it's no where near as awful as many are making it out to be.
Selene and her daughter have separated to keep themselves safe from being exploited by both the vampires and the Lycans in the continuing war.
Since her blood may be the key to saving her species Selene wants to distance herself from David and the last remaining coven.
But Semira of the counsel wants the power to lead everyone even as far to getting Selene's blood.
There's also a secret lying in between the warring races that's kind of a throwback to the original movie.
The film's only weakness is that it goes by so fast you cant really immerse yourself in the new world they've established; we don't really get to know the newer characters like Marius, Semira or Alexia.
But this 5th entry in the franchise still has the entertaining action, the sweet special effects, and Kate Beckinsale in tight leather to boot.
Even if this feels like an unsatisfactory end to the series the movie isn't a complete disaster.
I still wish they could've expanded a bit more but there are a few story twists that boost up the mythology of the characters.
Not horrible but the 4th movie was better.
