Review of Underworld: Blood Wars (2016) by Alex W — 07 Jan 2017
Take one look at Kate Beckinsale and it's nearly impossible to imagine that its been 13 years since the first underworld movie. In actuality, her character Selene is over a thousand years old, and she still looks that good.
Underworld: Blood Wars follows the same format as the previous movies; Blue screen filter, lots of night time, a gazillion bullets flying everywhere, amazing costumes, big dumb werewolves, cliches up the wazoo and fun video game-esque over-the-top action.
Its an entertaining little movie for sure. As far as being a "good" movie, I can't say that it is, but its not the worst either. It has elements of a coherent plot but that is constantly overshadowed by the absurdity of certain situations. At times it feels a little like Dragon Ball Z because certain characters are so much more powerful than others it makes you wonder why they even bother to bring an army and don't just go it alone. But I guess thats how things are with Elder Vampires in all vampire lore -- here it just felt pretty dumb. Fortunately, every dumb thing was balanced out by cool things, pretty things, action, and of course, Kate Beckinsale in that amazing shiny leather bodice.
67%.
