Vampires vs werewolves fighting over a human? I felt like I've heard it before. But the storyline develops well enough with a number of central characters that together has more storyline to develop and continue into sequels.

People who watched this movie, thought it's crap, rated it "rotten, but then went on to follow all the various follow-up instalments should seriously reconsider their scoring standard. I went on a semi-marathon watching both the original and the sequel in one sittinng and so am slightly confused regarding which part of the story was present in which instalments. But it wasn't as bad a plot as many movies of this genre is (most movies of this genre err too much on the shock tactics) and the overall atmosphere created was sophisticated and gothic.
