Review of Under the Volcano (1984) by Scott M — 22 Jul 2008
Albert Finney is pretty out there in this movie. I bought the Criterion of this film on a whim, and I can't say I'm 100% satisfied with the purchase. It's a good movie to be sure, but I had difficulty taking anything meaningful from it, other than it being a good character study.
It never manages to captivate me, or truly care for the characters, as Finney slurs almost every line of dialogue, and his character's half brother and ex-wife are pretty boring characters. I just couldn't ever get fully into it.
