Review of Under the Sand (2001) by Zeeshan M — 21 Jan 2009
A clumsy film about a woman's resistance to her husband's disappearance and possible death. Rampling provides the kind of performance that would be expected of her and Ozon has some fine ideas but the exploration of grieving disbelief and loss is remarkably shallow and unsatisfactory.
Somewhere in Ozon's imagination there was an exceptional film lurking that never quite made it outside. The ingredients were all in the kitchen but he forgot to use some of them. It isn't awful just not worth anyone's time.
