Review of Under Suspicion (2000) by Ira K — 19 Sep 2012
When Tax Attorney, Henry Hearst, finds the body of a murdered girl on his daily run two Hollywood legends go head to head as Morgan Freeman's police Captain Victor Benezet questions Hearst (Hackman doing what Hackman does best) to tie up some loose ends in his report. As the interview goes on lies are revealed and the mystery deepens.
Both Hackman and Freeman give gripping performances and we're kept guessing right up until the shock conclusion but the film loses energy switching from mano-a-mano dialogue in Benezet's office to the flashback/outside scenes as well as lacking the smarts to really make this something special.
