Review of Under Siege (1992) by Luke P — 12 Oct 2008
Probably the zenith of Steven Seagal's glittering and illustrious career, Under Siege takes the winning formula of Die Hard, and applies it to a battleship. Seagal kicks ass in his own inimitably sluggish and wooden style as the coolest cook on a battleship ever, while Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey ham it up as the villains of the piece, while director Andrew Davis (who directed Seagal's debut Nico/ Above the Law, as well as directing Tommy Lee Jones to an Oscar in The Fugitive) keeps the film moving at a fair pace, and sets up some explosive set-pieces (although not nearly enough for my liking).
It also features one of the famous VHS freeze-frame moments; Erika Eleniak emerging from a cake completely topless. Very cheesy, very silly, but fun nonetheless.
