Review of Undead (2003) by Jason K — 10 Jan 2011
Bout time that someone starts to understand just how hard it is to make a film with a budget, much less make a film that doesnt look like it had a budget more less a âindie filmâ?. I know that this one will stir up comments about how much it looks and feels like classic EVIL DEAD films and I think in my views it is because not of the story but because it looks good, and is very very well directed and screenplayed to feel like its not a short film submit by some kids in Alberta.
overall I wasnt thinking much of the film but it did win my views over 1/4 of the way through. from the beginning I was put off by the acting, because as you start to watch this movie you notice its VERY overacted and filled with stereotypes.
at first this is very annoying because you think that they just cast there family and friends and âgreat this is gonna be a brentwood classic againâ?, but as the meteors fall from the sky you think âwow, those are pretty high quality effects.
.hmmmâ¦.â?, then as the title appears you slapped in the face with the blunt truth that âthis is MEANT to be corny and its cast that way on purpose!â?. which doesnt help the fact that some of the characters a really REALLY annoying.
.it just justifys it I suppose. now the way the film looks and is directed is unreal, much better than any movie iâ(TM)ve paid 10 bucks for recently. the effects are very effective and the zombies were better here then the last LAND OF THE DEAD movie (not to metion how much I HATED that movie and this I assume was made for about 1/5th of the price.
so overall the only thing that I would say a downfall would be is the fact that the story was kinda hard to understand once all was overwith and the credits came up- I didnt really follow the whole plot and the reasons why, when, or how.
to me it seemed very last minute to justify the plotlines of this zombie/alien flixâ¦.but I think, since it was so fun to watch= who cares about script!
