Review of Uncovered: The Whole Truth About The Iraq War (2004) by Chris G — 10 Jul 2010
An insightful but over-extended piece of agit-prop which blunts its point...
Brave New Films founder Robert Greenwald (â??Steal This Movieâ?? & â??Xanaduâ??) extends the popular second documentary short in his â??Un-trilogyâ?? into this theatrical release which premiered at the 57th Cannes Film Festival alongside the more accomplished â??Fahrenheit 9/11â?? by fellow agit-prop film-maker Michael Moore.
A curiously drawn-out prologue in which the participants establish their credentials is followed by an expert lead examination of the railroading of America, against the advice of the intelligence community, with scare-tactics, self-serving informants and distorted intelligence into an unprecedented pre-emptive war, before finally turning on the Neo-cons.
Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern heads up a battalion of well-informed but somewhat wasted whistleblowers, David Albright, Joe Wilson and Dr. David Kay, in a particularly mind-numbing 2004 interlude, who provide compelling alternative analysis of the 2003 State of the Union Address, Colin Powellâ??s UN Address and other milestones in the rush to war.
The veteran television director relies on his impressive assemblage of experts to provide a seemingly authoritative re-analysis of the events in a format which worked well in the original version but overwhelms the message as it is overstretched in this extended edition where the ever changing array of talking heads becomes a little wearying.
â??Our people are gonna find out the truth.â??
