Review of Un Chien Andalou (1929) by Brian S — 02 Aug 2009
From the strange and surrealists minds of Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali comes 16 of the strangest minutes you're likely to see on film. the surrealist movement in general never did much for me--I enjoy it to some degree, but I'd never classify it among my top artistic philosophies.
while this film goes places no other film in 1929 dared to go, I have to ask...why do I really want to go there? a lengthy dream sequence intended to make no sense whatsoever with no intended symbolic meaning.
..so it's just weird for the sake of being weird? odd and a bit haunting, but not anything out of which I'd like to make a habit.
