Review of Umberto D. (1952) by Karlo M — 23 Jul 2008
Umberto D. is the simple and heartbreaking story about an elderly man's plight to survive in a post war city after he and his dog, Flike, are evicted from his appartment. Unemployed, hungry, and displaced, Umberto struggles to retain his integrity as hope gradually diminishes and leaves him in a suicidal state.
Gorgeously shot and pitch perfect, Umberto D. continues to remain as the pinnacle of Italian Neorealism.
