Review of Udaan (2010) by Rohit P — 17 Jul 2010
First word for this movie is meaningful. This is not enough to describe my entire feelings.
Udaan is a story of an expelled student returning to a small town finding himself prisoned by the expectations of his father and a kid step-brother who he never thought existed. Thus starts a marvelous journey of the protagonist who writes poems, smokes, drinks with his college buddies.
The acting is the main asset of the movie. It has the finest ensemble of actors of the recent times. Special mention to Ronit Roy who plays the father to the protagonist. He played the role with elan. Some scenes were too good, the one where he gets drunk and says "Sex nahi kiya ab tak?".
I have always loved watching Anurag Kashyap's movies and this is no exception. The director Vikramaditya Motwane deserves more than critical acclaim (some major awards too). The music (Amit Trivedi) is spellbinding.
Overall the movie was believable, though it was predictable at the end. But as the credits roll, you get THE FEEL GOOD MOMENT. It paints such a great picture that I feel it should be rendered both path breaking and motivating.
4/5.
