Review of Two Lovers (2008) by Garbo D — 19 Aug 2009
James Gray brings us Two Lovers, making the tiredsome love triangle theme, making it interesting and begging for more. I felt as in many scenes as if I was just a spectator who caught a glance at them and decided to follow them up on the roof sneaking behind the walls, listening to their conversation hiding behind fruit and watching them at the train among passengers. Joaquin Phoenix blesses us with one hell of an unforgettable farewell performance.Gwyneth Paltrow although a good actress was not an ideal choice. Gwyneth just looks tired and worn out, in my opinion, she does deliver the essence that Michelle should naturally have, and Gwyneth, is not it at all.Sandra fit Shaw like a golden glove, a sweet, somewhat dull-a father's daughter type.
So who really is Leonard? the guy he is with his parents? or the guy he is with Michelle? Wich one is real, and wich ones fake? I think maybe he fell in love with Michelle because of what she represented, a stranger who he felt he could be who he was or what he wanted to be. I just KNOW that if Leonard was rich and had his place that Michelle would have been with him in heartbeat. And that he's with Sandra because he feels trapped and that's what his sweet parents want him to do, and ultimately know what is right for him. Isabella Rosellini and Moni Moshonov are just evryones perfect idea for parents who give him unconditional love. Joaquin delivers awkward obsessed handsome neighbor next door like no one can and no one ever will. Joaquin come back!!!
