Review of Two Lovers (2008) by Jj D — 05 Sep 2009
This "love suspense" kept me feeling distressed and off balance throughout - including the ending. Phoenix's Leonard joins Travis Bickle, Chauncey Gardener, Benjamin Braddock, etc. as a bewildered and passive being seemingly only half in the waking world, startled at each contact, question, eventuality - only able to react to what happens around him, and barely able to cope with daily life. I wasn't sure what it was trying to say - but I was intrigued to watch it unfold in an uncharacteristically ever-dreary version of New York.
Good performances by all.
