Review of Two Lovers (2008) by Benjamin — 04 Dec 2009
A Brooklyn-set romantic drama about a bachelor (Phoenix) torn between the family friend his parents wish he would marry and his beautiful but volatile new neighbor.
This is a good example of "be carefull what you wish for" After watching a movie that gives us a lot of things happening with no characters to root for, this movie gives us some great characters with nothing to do.
Thankfully the characters are placed in the hands of some more than competant actors. Making this Glacier slow movie a little more than tolerable.
It's questionable ending does also lend itself to a little bit of a discussion if watched by a couple apparently. Yet I feel many times in life people are too willing to settle because the one they really want is in some way unavailable at the time.
Anyway, it is good to see a movie that creates real drama instead of melodrama. If only it wan't so deathly dull.
