Review of Two Lovers (2008) by Marie N — 26 Mar 2011
Wonderfully understated romantic drama about loving, needing to be loved, and the emotional complexities of being voraciously attracted to someone versus allowing yourself to truly love and be loved by someone.
The ending could have easily been different, but I loved that it ended the way it did; because the last 5 minutes defined true love. Joaquin Phoenix is an incredibly viscerally emotionally expressive actor, and his performance here was every bit as good as his Academy Award nominated role for Best Actor in Walk The Line.
The rest of the cast was wonderful as well; this is a feel good film in a painfully human, yet ultimately warm human skin.
