Review of Two Lovers (2008) by Joy V — 09 Aug 2009
An intriguing film that is VERY well made (thanks Curt J for the recommendation). Phoenix plays a character many of us have known or have been at times in our lives (as Ebert states in his review on the film). Supposedly this is his last film appearance IF you buy his whole pretend acting crazy spree of late ... I personally don't.
Anyhow, he once again shows his acting prowess as a commonly troubled young(er) man ... he seems to be getting "better", but we wonder if he will get in his own way again. The entire film works, but he is especially strong here as slightly apprehensive and awkward, yet true to himself.
I was really drawn into the film as it progressed without even noticing so ... always a good sign. This is one worth checking out imho.
