Review of Two Lovers (1928) by Karen T — 14 Jul 2009
Had no interest in this when it was released, but just saw it on DVD and liked it much more than I thought I would. Transcends the guy-who's-obsessed-with-girl-out-of-his-league-while-taking-for-granted-the-wonderful-down-to-earth-girl-who's-totally-crazy-about-him cliche.
Joaquin Phoenix delivered a complex, emotional performance that surprised me. Gwyneth Paltrow is one of those actresses I always think I don't like until I see her. The supporting cast was very strong and it's always a treat to see Isabella Rossellini.
