Review of Two Lovers (1928) by Claudette A — 24 Jul 2011
Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltrow are not very high on my 'must see' list - they both always seem to be playing themselves. However they made a good fist of this one. It's a 'New York' film, one where the city itself is one of the stars, and I always like those films.
It's a movie that only resolves its plot in the last few moments - most of the time I was thinking how stupid Joaquin's character was being, and anticipating the eventual car crash. It's plausible as a plot, but only just - the boy is certainly a mess, emotionally.
