Review of Two Lovers (1928) by Eric R — 13 Nov 2009
Wow, what a surprise. Joaquin Phoenix's Leonard is a very interesting character that is not easy to pin down. Phoenix does a great job at creating him in the way he interacts with others all the way down to his mannerisms.
James Gray really really impressed me with this film. His beautiful direction, focusing on the little intricaces perfectly get the viewer into Leonard's mindset. Its just well thought out, which was surprising to me given Gray's other work.
The cinematography is well done as well. Just a very interesting story; Oh yea, and Elias Koteas is the shit.
