Review of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) by Se Young K — 24 Feb 2008
I absolutely adore Twin Peaks. The first season is the best TV ever and most of the second season is good, too. But Fire Walk With Me fails completely. Laura Palmer is great as a character we come to know through other people's stories, dreams and diaries, but she's dead boring as the centerpiece of a movie.
The story of her death is one that doesn't need to be told. The missing pieces filled in are things were better off as mysteries. It's like if they made a movie telling the story of how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader. Oh, wait.
Fire Walk With Me, with its cheesecake, fans-only story and pointless plot hole filling in reeks of fan service at its worst.
